Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force Motorcycle Recon
This long name doesn’t really help to describe Armoury’s modern Japanese figure. Instead, perhaps this will help identify it. It’s the “Japanese Army Woman”.
Armoury produced one of the few non-pilot female military figures in the 1/6th world (excluding Nurses) in this outing. The figure is a member of the Japanese GSDF, and is decked out in nice camo fatigues, harness and boots. Equipment is light on this figure, but the uniqueness of the figure makes up for that somewhat. When evaluating her, it is hard to not compare her to Dragon’s Amy, and they compare favorably.
The uniform is nicely done, high quality work. It is cut to fit the female body, and not simply a typical male uniform placed on a smaller body. Think of Dragon’s Amy, and you have an idea of the quality. Nice snaps, no Velcro makes this a nice fitting uniform. She comes with an undershirt as well. The back of the uniform top has nicely sewn working loops, for attaching pouches, extra equipment, etc. Very nice touch and detail throughout the uniform.
She wears a motorcycle style helmet, with a plastic front rain/sun visor. The visor is easily removable if you wish, but looks pretty cool in place. The helmet straps are nicely molded, with a full chin cup in place. Intrinsic to the helmet is a radio microphone ‘boom’ that moves around enough to be positioned correctly for speaking. Nice touch, good detail there.
The figure is outfitted with a belt and harness system with some extra ammo pouches, canteen, and bayonet. She carries a Japanese version of a small SMG, nicely detailed with a working clip and bolt/action cover. Pouches and Canteen cover are nicely sewn, on par with Dragon quality. Boots are simple molded black plastic/rubber, nothing special but nicely done.
The figure itself is nice, simply because it is not a 12” figure. Armoury struck a blow for reality, and actually made her slightly under 11” tall. So, despite her height, she will stand out on your display because she is a more realistic Asian woman than any other we have had. Her hair is molded with painted highlights and she has a nice face sculpt. She has excellent potential for kitbashing because of her facial sculpt and her unique height. Her hands are molded with the black rubber gloves in place, and are not easily replaceable. Her fingers are soft plastic, and bendable, but they will not stay in place. They will return to form after a few seconds. This allows you to get her hands around a weapon, etc., but you are stuck with the trigger finger in place on the right hand.
Articulation on this figure is low. She kneels fine, has good mobility in the hips and waist, along with wrists. Her head has a limited range of motion, with upward and downward poses not possible. She would NOT make a good sniper in a prone position, for instance.
Overall, a nice solid figure, worth getting for the Body and face alone. There are so few good Female figures, it is nice to see a company expand and try to make one. If you are into the Modern Japanese Forces, she is a must have, and a whole lot cheaper than Dragon’s JGSDF figure. Think of her as a Japanese Amy, and you won’t be disappointed, except for the articulation.
