DML's older albeit still venerable "Werner" he represents a Falschirmjager from the Ukraine, winter of 1943.
Body and Head:
Neo Body, Gloved bendy hands. Head is okay, but not great. Looks more like a FJ from Create, and Siegfried looks more like a battle hardened vet from the eastern front winter '43. Could use some 5' o clock shadowing as well. Rating: ***
Luftwafe Quilted reversible winter jacket and trousers:
Very well done. These were reversible to green in real life which is the reason for Dragon's "Green Werner." These were to my knowledge Luftwafe only and worn by FJs, Luftwafe field division, Flak gunners and other Luftwafe personnel but some may have ended up in Whermacht hands. The Whermacht M42 was also worn by FJs and Luftwafe troops. Looks factory new, this outfit is just begging to be "dirtied" up just a bit. Rating: ****
Flieger Blouse:
Nice, looks like real wool. IMO nicer than the earlier ones that came with Siggfried and Pieter. My biggest complaint is the Gefreiter rank on his left arm, which is clearly to small and thick. I actually prefer some of their iron on insignias, the new "micro weave" versions especially of the German rank just end up the wrong size. He also comes with the Luftwafe Jump Badge. Even though I'm not in love with the Gefreiter should patch it's still a nice flieger blouse. Rating: ***
Winter boots:
Same that came with Kurt and Otto, now all my eastern front Germans want a pair. Rating: ***
FJ helmet:
Same helmet that came with the other FJs, except the pant job is strange. It's supposed to be a winter white wash, but it's really weak on mine, as if someone took a white crayon and tried to white wash it. I'm sure some helmets looked like this, but I think I'll repaint it anyway. In addition underneath the attempted white wash it appears their was a green and brown cam pattern painted on. Overall, I plan on repainting mine, it may be accurate but most pictures show white washed helmets even if chipped more thoroughly washed than this. Rating: ***
MP40 Pouches:
Great improvement! They've managed to make a pair of plastic ones that really look good. They have simulated stitching and the two tone color is better. These rival the Yellow Submarine ones. Definitely better than the older Dragon MP40 pouches. Rating: ***
MP40:
More realistic look, somewhat metallic looking. Has a metal finish, looks factory new, just like the Yellow Submarines model it has a working bolt action, so you can actually cock it all the way back and see the open ejection port with the exposed bullet. A very nice piece. If only they'd use a leather or fake leather sling rather than elastic. Rating: ****
Toque:
It's not a real toque, it's a scarf, larger than the older ones DML made, but let's face it, this is a scarf, not a toque. The toque was like a balkava that covered the face. Yes, sometimes a scarf would be worn wrapped around the head, which I tried earlier, and than finally I gave in and gave him a 21st Century Toque. The scarf is nice though, but I think this figure needs a proper toque. Rating: **
Belt and equipment:
Luftwafe brown belt, no Y straps. Blue breadbag, canteen and Mess tin. Rating:***
M24 stick grenade:
Same old stick grenade, just one. Rating: **
M35 dispatch case:
Same map case, but I wonder why they'd give a map case to a
Corporal, though I suppose he may be an acting NCO. Usually they were carried by either senior NCO's, Squad, Platoon leaders and officers. So my guess is he's an acting NCO, as he's equipped with an MP40, and the map case. Rating: ***
Overall Rating: ****
Value:***
