Product Description:
I have found an interesting item while suffering for new 1:6th scale bits and pieces on the Asian market. The equipment set is by ACE Workshop known as “Tactical Tailor Inc, Modular Assault Vest (MAV)”. The good news is that this item is offered at “Good Stuff To Go”. So, I was inspired to pass on this information to you Joe-World readers. The item again is the ACE Tactical Tailor, Modular Assault Vest (M.A.V) set, which was released In April 2006. This is a nice set. Think of it as another variation of the theme for modular chest harness being developed by 1-to-1 scale vendors. This ACE set was produced as an exclusive for a show in Japan and is now available her in the USA.
As many of you know ACE Workshop has been putting out high end, high quality, and highly detailed 1/6th scale accessories since 2002. Each year and with each release, ACE gets better by adding another level of detail for every equipment piece released. Thus providing us some of the latest and greatest 1/6th scale items that our soldiers, sailors, and marines are using in the field today.
The ACE Tactical Tailor M.A.V set is made up of 1 each (ea.) ACE Tactical Tailor, Modular (one piece) Assault Vest (Chest Rig), 1 ea. Marom-Dolphin Body Armor vest with removable PAL ballistic plates, 4 ea. M4/M16 MOLLE Compatible System (MLCS) double magazine ammo pouches, 1 ea. MLCS Radio Pouch, and 1 ea. BlackHawk Medical Utility Pouch w/BTS. The MSRP on this item is $23.99.
I find the Tactical Tailor MAV a nice set. Not that I would look at it and say: “Got to have one”! The ACE MAV is a good item to have when trying to add diversity to your figure’s equipment configuration. The set works very well for configuring a Private Military Contractor (PMC) or for equipment supporting a SEAL operation. The first time you 1:6th scale hobbyist saw this vest is in its two-piece version (See Figure 3) used in BBi’s “Freedom Force” series Delta Force “Rogue or Douglas” figure sets (BBi #21048). It was done in Coyote Brown (Desert Tan) then. So now we have come full circle to the one piece version.

In this set, the main item is the Tactical Tailor MAV one-piece chest harness (Shown below), which really looks like a SPEAR LCS Chest harness (Ranger Rack) without the bib. The one piece MAV is very detail and has stow pockets in the reverse side of the vest. All pouches are very easy to attach and to secure allowing the figure to be moved about without worry of the pouches coming off. There are a few nice touches ACE made with this set, such as the drawstrings on the side of the ammo pouches and the extra pouches added to the medical pouch officially known as the BlackHawk Medical Utility Pouch w/BTS.
The body armor looks like the American Body Armor (ABA) item. However, it is a Marom-Dolphin body armor vest. It I a relatively simple vest with side and shoulder connecting points and two pockets, front and rear, for adding ballistic plates that are provided in the set. The fact that the MAV is MLCS compatible allows you to change out the pouches provided with pouches of your on choosing. The vest and harness fits on the figure very well without looking to big or to small. This includes using the very muscular BBi 3.5 body or a 1:6th scale body that is smaller like DML or MEDICON.

Military 1-to-1 Overview (The real thing!):
Modular Assault Vest (MAV)
The MAV his 18 MOLLE Loops across, and provides 3 rows of loops for the user to attach pouches. The vest is constructed from 1000 denier Cordura nylon and Mil-spec webbing, which allows for the maximum strength with the minimum of weight. The 1-to-1 MAV may be purchased as a complete unit, or as individual pieces. The MAV produced by ACE is an individual pieced item. A complete 1-to-1 MAV comes with the following: one vest body, four triple 30 rd. AR-15/M4 Mag pouches, two large utility pouches, and two small utility pouches.

The MAV comes in either a one piece or two-piece model. Both have 1.5" adjustable shoulder straps and a waist belt. There are quick disconnect buckles up front, so the MAV can be "ditched" in a hurry. The vest body also has a inside Velcro pocket for storing maps or survival gear. All MAV components are constructed from 1000 denier Cordura nylon for maximum durability and Mil-spec webbing. All seams are double stitched with nylon thread. The MAV and modular pockets are available in OD, Black, Woodland Cammo, or Desert Tan. ACE has done a wonderful job in mirroring its 1-to-1-counter part. The likeness between the 1-to-1 version and ACE’s version can be noted in every detail for each item in the MAV set. Quality is abound and I was very happy with my copy of the finished product.

Tactical Tailor Ammo Pouches M4 / M16:
For ammo carrying capacity, the MAV three Mag rifle pouches will hold three 30 round .223/5.56 magazines. The pouch is made from 1000 Denier Cordura nylon and the inside is lined with two inch nylon webbing for maximum durability. The pocket closes with Velcro and has our cinch system. The cinch system allows tightening down the pocket so the Mags do not rattle. This pouches uses are MALICE clip attaching system and can be securely attached to most all types of tactical gear. Note that ACE also provides the drawstring with push-lock closers on their ammo pouches.

BlackHawk Medical Utility Pouch w/BTS
This zippered pouch is designed to carry an IV bag with accessories and other emergency medical gear. The pouch is also used for E & E kits, signaling devices, small binoculars or any other gear you might need in the field. The main compartment has elastic straps to secure gear inside and is closed with a heavy-duty zipper with its own protector flap. The smaller outside pocket is secured by hook & loop. It attaches to the belt-by-belt loops and/or ALICE clips. The BlackHawk Medical Utility pouch is made with Blackhawk's 1000 denier Nytaneon and is designed with #9 “YKK” zipper and sliders which is a silent zipper pull. The pouch will fits 2.25 inch belt via belt loops or A.L.I.C.E. clips.

BDS Tactical Modular MBTR (AN/PRC-148) Radio Pouch
BDS Tactical has been around for several years and was formerly know as Special Operations Equipment / SOE. The BDS radio pouch made to fit the Multi-Band Integrated Tactical Radio (MBITR) radio or by its military nomenclature as the AN/PRC-148 radio. This pouch has cut out for controls on front and cover that flaps open for easy use. This radio pouch also has MOLLE attachments on back to connect the pouch to any MLCS compatible system or a belt mount adaptor is available to allow wear of the pouch on duty belt. Made with 1000 denier Cordura.

Marom-Dolphin Body Armor Carrier:
Marom-Dolphin Ltd is an Israeli based company founded in 1993. The company develops manufactures and markets personal military supplies for armed forces, security services, and civilians worldwide. Marom-Dolphin is a certified contractor manufactured to the Israel Defense Force (IDF) from which its founder had served.
The company’s products include body armor vests, tactical vests, gun holsters, accessories and belt pouches, custom carrying bags for all personal and military field equipment, and textile equipment for civilian field markets. Marom-Dolphin’s combat-proven body armor vest provide maximal protection, allow the combatant free movement and meet National Institute of Justice (N.I.J.) standards for compliance with different threat levels. Main characteristics of these life-protecting products are the combination of ballistic protection materials such as Kevlar, Dyneema or ceramic plates and their lightweight and ergonomic design.
The item shown below is Marom-Dolphin’s body armor vest model number 7906. This is a modular system that has optional modular groin, neck, chest and back supplementary protection that are easy add-ons. Protection level for this body armor vest is IIIA. Added protection may be added by the insertion of ballistic plates in the front and rear pockets.

Overall Rating:
Overall I have to give the ACE Tactical Tailor MAV a nine (9) out of ten (10). There was nothing really to complain about. The configuration we have seen before and as I stated earlier is a variation of a theme. It is a nice set to add variation to your figures tactical equipment configuration
The bottom line is that the ACE Tactical Tailor MAV Equipment set is excellent and gives you a lot of options for modeling your figure. As far as the cost of the item, I think it is a little high. However, I love the pouches that come with this set. Times are changing and with changing times comes higher cost especially for the level of detail desired and expected by 1/6th scale hobbyist and collectors today.
