| This is a picture of me at the 2004 GIJoe Convention at Orlando Florida. |
I was invited by Charlotte to serve as a writer on the JWO Staff, and I gladly accepted the honor. I intend to focus my writing on 1/6th military news, how-to articles, editorials and show coverage. I have written for several other websites, but none as well known or respected as Joe World.
Charlotte mentioned I should write a brief biography, so here goes. I'm an 18 year old Student in New York City, who's primary obsession is WW2 in 1/6th, but as you'll read here, I have many others. My first figure was when I was about 3-4 years old, and was the 3/3 4 figure that came with a canoe, and my first 12" was the Hall of Fame Duke. I became more involved in collecting and the collecting community when I was about 12, and when I was ill instead of watching TV, I would often customize or "play" with my figures. I began entering diorama contests that year (I think the first big show I attended was a James DeSimone show in Pawtucket.)
I've really never stopped collecting since then, as a matter of fact it's become a very large part of my life, which I have been able to merge with another passion of mine, Military history. A few years ago a company that I knew for manufacturing model kits, Dragon Models Limited, changed the whole ball game by releasing a highly detailed, super articulated figure for an unbelievable price. Since then my collection has focused primarily on WW2, WW1 and a few modern (especially figures from the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan). I collect all things WW1 and WW2 and have expanded my modern collection, which are primarily special forces. I also have an interest in obscure conflicts such as the Chinese Civil War, The Spanish Civil War, The Spanish American War and the Boer War among others. In the last few years, I have also begun to appreciate the pre-WW1 figures from the Civil War, Napolianic Period, Revolution, etc. Most of the figures I buy are modified in some way, pretty soon after I take them out of the box. My favorite type of customization is probably weathering, I'm sometimes even told my figures look too dirty, to which I reply, "well so is fighting."
Other hobbies: Reading, history, writing, photography, swimming, weightlifting and racquetball.
I look forward to writing many articles and news postings here, and thanks again to Charlotte for inviting me to write for JWO.
